In the midst of the cooking and the shopping and the party-going and the travel-planning, it can be easy to forget that the holiday season is intended to celebrate gratitude, joy, fellowship, and other non-monetary gifts. At Bas Bleu, we’re not about to dissuade you from holiday shopping—we believe our eclectic selection of books and gifts will make Christmas a little brighter—but we do want to stop for a moment in our Thanksgiving preparations to tell you how grateful we are for you, our readers.
Since our first order arrived (via fax!) in 1994, Bas Bleu’s customers have been the backbone of our business. And not just for the obvious reasons…though for every order you’ve ever placed, we say “thank you!” Over the course of more than two decades, you’ve encouraged us with your letters, emails, stories, and all-around enthusiasm for books and our wonderful community of readers. When times were tough—the economy was wobbly or online discounters who can afford to sell books at a loss were putting traditional booksellers out of business—you still gave the Bas Bleu catalog your time and attention. And on the (hopefully rare!) occasions when we messed up, you called us out and gave us the opportunity to improve.
This Thanksgiving, our office and warehouse will close so that our staff can spend the day with their families and friends. Rest assured we will be hard at work again on Friday, answering your calls, processing your orders, packing and shipping boxes, and generally doing our best to make your holidays merry and bright.
But before the Christmas season kicks into high gear, we’d like to offer up our gratitude, thanks, appreciation, regard—every synonym we can muster!—for you, dear reader. You are why we do what we do every day of the year…not just in December. We’re thankful for your support, and look forward to serving you for years to come. In the meantime, best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving.
