We’ll admit that our February selection, D. E. Stevenson’s The Four Graces, seems an unusual choice for sparking literary discussion: It concerns the lives, loves, and small-town travails of the Grace sisters in 1940s England. Yet if there’s one thing we’ve learned from our own book-club meetings, it’s that seemingly straightforward novels often inspire the most heartfelt and insightful conversations between bluestockings. Fans of contemporary fiction are no strangers to Sophie Hannah, the British author whose bestselling oeuvre includes The Telling Error, The Wrong Mother, and Hurting Distance. Yet with all due respect to Ms. Hannah’s previous accomplishments, January’s Book a Month selection, The Monogram Murders, may be her most ambitious undertaking to date.

After all, it’s not every day a novelist has the opportunity—or the guts—to take up the mantle of the queen of crime herself, breathing new life into Agatha Christie’s bombastic detective Hercule Poirot. (Did you know? Poirot’s “death” in 1975’s Curtain: Poirot’s Last Case earned him an obituary in the New York Times.) A Book a Month for 2015

Book A Month CalendarIn last year’s Holiday catalog, Bas Bleu launched our inaugural Book a Month program, which allowed you to treat your favorite bibliophile—or yourself, because you deserve it!—to an eclectic collection of books for bluestockings. At the time, the program was something of an experiment, but our readers loved it so much we’ve brought it back this year!
